Hurricane Recovery moving forward!
We’re excited to share that we’re moving forward with a goal of getting us back into our beloved Sanctuary sometime this Fall. A new Hurricane Reconstruction Committee is leading that effort under the umbrella of our Hurricane Recovery Commission. Jerry Rich is the chairperson, joined by Ralph Ferguson, Rina Diaz, Ron Scoggins, Stuart McKinney and Will Davidson.
Their job includes preparing specifications, seeking bids and recommending a general contractor to the commission and ultimately to session. If you have a contractor you want to suggest we contact, please give Jerry the information. The committee will be working with the chosen contractor and keeping us up to date on progress. Replacement of furnishings will come later in the process.
Our Hurricane Recovery Commission continues to work with federal and state agencies, the city of St. Petersburg and our insurance company on many issues. Members of that commission are Mark Ewin, chairperson, Jerry Rich, Ron Scoggins, George Meese, Chris Stambaugh, Helen Huntley, Arthur Skinner and Bobby Musengwa.
One Great Hour of Sharing

Around the world, millions of people lack access to sustainable food sources, clean water, sanitation, education, and opportunity. The three programs supported by One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) — Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, the Presbyterian Hunger Program, and Self-Development of People — all work in different ways to serve individuals and communities in need. From initial disaster response to ongoing community development, their work fits together to provide people with safety, sustenance, and hope.
We will take up a special collection on Easter Sunday
Women of Maximo!

You are invited to an adult study entitled
Into the Light: Finding Hope Through
Prayers of Lament
Written by P. Lynn Miller
One of the foundational points of the study is that, in scripture, lament usually leads to hope. After crying out to God, the one who laments remembers God. And while that doesn’t fix things in the moment—the injustice, the loss still exists – the lamenter is strengthened to face the world and to hope.

FAST Nehemiah Action Meeting
Monday April 7, 2025 at 7:00 p.m.

Friends, we are nearing the end of Maximo’s fourth year involvement in FAST (Faith and Action Strength Together). Let us show support of Fast’s unwavering work on Affordable Housing and Water Quality committees by coming to the biggest and most exciting meeting of the year, the Nehemiah Action. This will also show support of YOUR congregation’s network members involvement in FAST. It will be held Monday, April 7th at 7:00 p.m. Approximately 45 congregations will come together in the large sanctuary of The First Baptist Church, Gandy. In the evening that is only a 20 minute drive but come early to secure a parking spot. Network members, we can carpool from the Maximo parking lot at 6:15 p.m. Feel free to email Kathy Calcaterra at bkcalcaterra@gmail for more information. Hope to see you there! Galatians Chapter 6, verse 2 reads “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of the Lord”.
Raising of the Memorial Dove Service

We were blessed to continue the Maximo Church tradition of Raising a Memorial Dove to remember all those who passed away in 2024.
Each year a new dove is added to the flight to honor those who heard the call, took wing and joined this encircling cloud of faithful witnesses.
– The Rev. Lacy R. Harwell
Women’s Retreat at Cedarkirk

Maximo women took to the woods over a chilly weekend in January for a retreat at Cedarkirk Camp and Conference Center. They shared faith stories, sang, prayed, laughed, ate, tried rock painting and origami folding and were treated with hand massages. They were reminded what the PCUSA Matthew 25 initiative calls us to do: build congregational vitality, dismantle structural racism and eradicate systemic poverty. In prayer and community, they asked to be the hands of God, when facing the challenges of creating a more just and equitable world.
Many thanks to Rina Diaz for organizing this weekend, Rev. Elizabeth Hatter for delivering an inspiring message and the Presbytery of Tampa Bay for helping with funding!

Presbyterian Leadership Organizations visit Maximo to assess Hurricane Damage

Visitors from Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, the Synod of South Atlantic, the Presbytery of Tampa Bay, together with the Executive Director and Stated Clerk of the General Assembly for the interim unified agency, the Rev. Jihyun Oh, have been spending time with PC(USA) congregations affected by Helene and Milton, discovering the different ways each has found to move forward.
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance assesses Hurricane Helene Damage at Maximo

The Presbyterian Disaster Assistance came to Maximo to assess the storm damage and walk alongside us during this difficult time. Rev. Dr. Holly Dillon, our beloved Presbytery Executive, and Rev. Bill Wildhack, our capable Stated Clerk, who is also the former co-pastor of Maximo, accompanied the PDA. We appreciate being seen in our suffering! Maximo will rise again!
