All Are Welcome

Come join us as we make Christ’s love known through our hospitality and all-encompassing inclusion. We are an affirming church to all God’s children regardless of age, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, family makeup or socioeconomic situation, physical character or disability, or any other identity or way in which people differ that establishes who we are in God’s eyes. We foster a safe environment, inviting all God’s children to share in the life, fellowship, worship, ministry, leadership, responsibilities, blessings, and joys of our faithful community.

Our Mission

We are an inclusive, safe, and affirming community of believers seeking to share the love of God in Jesus Christ our Lord

Maximo Presbyterian Church was gathered by God in the southern most part of Pinellas County, in St. Petersburg, Florida. We believe that God has a mission in this area. We also believe God has invited us to become partners in God’s mission. These beliefs are anchored in scripture. Our brief history of who we are and what we believe as Presbyterians and Reformed Christians will illuminate this fact.

Presbyterians trace their history to the 16th century and the Protestant Reformation. Our heritage, and much of what we believe, began with the French lawyer John Calvin (1509-1564), whose writings crystallized much of the Reformed thinking that came before him. Read more…

Who We Are

Presbyterians are Christians who believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, and belong to the Reformed Faith, a branch of Christianity which takes scriptures seriously, and believes in the sovereignty of God. Historically, this branch of Christianity emerged during the Reformation, about 500 years ago.

While Maximo Presbyterian Church is over sixty years old, the larger Presbyterian Church (USA) denomination is much older. For over 200 years, Presbyterians have been responding to the call of Jesus Christ, taking the gospel into all the world and bearing witness to Christ’s saving love to the ends of the earth. Today the Holy Spirit is still on the move, calling us to share in what God is doing in the world. Read more…

Please speak with Pastor Bob or any of the Ruling Elders on Session for clarification or more information.

Our Music Director

Irma-Louise Wright

Irma-Louise Wright has taught studio violin and voice, lectured in pedagogy and music appreciation, conducted and performed internationally for over 30 years.  Coming from a musical family, becoming a professional musician was almost inevitable.  After her tenure at the University of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Irma came to the US to further her studies: first to Montana State University where she graduated with a Masters of Education and Music Performance, and then at Florida State University, earning the Doctorate of Music Performance.  She was the first music doctoral candidate to be awarded the prestigious FSU Academic Fellowship (2 years) as well as the FUS Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship (one year). After living and working in New York and New Jersey, raising their family in Summit, NJ.,  Irma and her husband, Neil moved to back to Florida, settling in St. Petersburg. She held the position of Director of Music Ministry at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church for the past eight years, retiring this past August.  Building a vibrant church music ministry with choir, bells, wind ensemble and chamber orchestra was a highlight in her career and she is excited and grateful to begin her music ministry here at Maximo Presbyterian Church.

WE ARE A MATTHEW 25 CHURCH!

Matthew 25:31–46 calls all of us to actively engage in the world around us, so our faith comes alive and we wake up to new possibilities. Convicted by this passage, both the 222nd and 223rd General Assemblies (2016 and 2018) exhorted the PC(USA) to act boldly and compassionately to see our neighbors through Jesus’ eyes and serve those who are marginalized or in need — people who are hungry, thirsty, naked, sick, imprisoned, strangers, poor or oppressed in other ways and in need of welcoming.
