All Are Welcome

Come join us as we make Christ’s love known through our hospitality and all-encompassing inclusion. We are an affirming church to all God’s children regardless of age, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, family makeup or socioeconomic situation, physical character or disability, or any other identity or way in which people differ that establishes who we are in God’s eyes. We foster a safe environment, inviting all God’s children to share in the life, fellowship, worship, ministry, leadership, responsibilities, blessings, and joys of our faithful community.

Our Mission

We are an inclusive, safe, and affirming community of believers seeking to share the love of God in Jesus Christ our Lord

Maximo Presbyterian Church was gathered by God in the southern most part of Pinellas County, in St. Petersburg, Florida. We believe that God has a mission in this area. We also believe God has invited us to become partners in God’s mission. These beliefs are anchored in scripture. Our brief history of who we are and what we believe as Presbyterians and Reformed Christians will illuminate this fact.

Presbyterians trace their history to the 16th century and the Protestant Reformation. Our heritage, and much of what we believe, began with the French lawyer John Calvin (1509-1564), whose writings crystallized much of the Reformed thinking that came before him. Read more…

Who We Are

Presbyterians are Christians who believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, and belong to the Reformed Faith, a branch of Christianity which takes scriptures seriously, and believes in the sovereignty of God. Historically, this branch of Christianity emerged during the Reformation, about 500 years ago.

While Maximo Presbyterian Church is over sixty years old, the larger Presbyterian Church (USA) denomination is much older. For over 200 years, Presbyterians have been responding to the call of Jesus Christ, taking the gospel into all the world and bearing witness to Christ’s saving love to the ends of the earth. Today the Holy Spirit is still on the move, calling us to share in what God is doing in the world. Read more…

Our Pastor

Reverend Bobby Musengwa

We are honored to have the Reverend Bobby Musengwa (Pastor Bobby) as our Pastor. He was born and raised in South Africa, educated at St. Andrews Presbyterian University (Laurinburg, NC), and received his Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary. He and his wife Veronique (who was born in France) met in Arkansas. They have three beautiful children!

Our Music Director

Patricia Brown

Patricia Brown is a constant presence and formidable leader at Maximo Presbyterian Church. Originally from Michigan, Patricia has lived in Florida for more than 35 years and has been a member of Maximo since 1991. Her first experience as a church musician was at age 11, filling in for the full-time organist at a memorial service. Patricia holds a BA from Eckerd College and a MA from the University of South Florida. While her professional career pivoted from business to education, music has always been the constant (which may explain why she came out of church music retirement twice).

WE ARE A MATTHEW 25 CHURCH!

Matthew 25:31–46 calls all of us to actively engage in the world around us, so our faith comes alive and we wake up to new possibilities. Convicted by this passage, both the 222nd and 223rd General Assemblies (2016 and 2018) exhorted the PC(USA) to act boldly and compassionately to see our neighbors through Jesus’ eyes and serve those who are marginalized or in need — people who are hungry, thirsty, naked, sick, imprisoned, strangers, poor or oppressed in other ways and in need of welcoming.
